Syklo's new plastic recycling plant in Hyvinkää, Finland, officially opened its operations on 9 September 2026, running at full scale on Impact Recycling's patented BOSS sorting technology.
The plant can process 50,000 tonnes of waste plastic every year, material that would otherwise be incinerated or sent to landfill. It raises Finland's overall plastic recycling capacity by 50% and is calculated to cut Finland's greenhouse gas emissions by more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2eq per year.
BOSS at the heart of the sorting process
At the heart of the plant's sorting process is Impact Recycling's patented BOSS technology, processing an even split of rigid and flexible plastics, 50% each. Combined with Syklo's own refining process and quality assurance, this technology enables the plant's Sykloplast recycled plastic pellets to meet the plastics industry's requirements for consistent quality and technical performance, even in the most demanding applications.
Regulation driving demand
The opening comes as EU regulation increases demand for recycled plastic across key sectors. The End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation, formally confirmed by the EU Council in June 2026, sets mandatory recycled plastic content targets for new vehicles for the first time. The EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which became applicable on 12 August 2026, sets mandatory minimum recycled content shares for plastic packaging. Together, these regulations create significant new demand for exactly the kind of high-quality recycled plastic the Hyvinkää plant produces.
